We all have resolutions of things we want to accomplish, finish, do better, or just to live better, in a more healthy way.
A New Year is all about clearing the roadblocks out of our way, discarding the “I can’t,” attitude, and replacing it with “why not?”

Whether it’s getting your brain in order, or your house in order, the New Year is a perfect time to begin.
It could be setting new challenges to overcome, or putting restrictions on yourself (limiting screen time, exercise more, stop buying junk food).
Unhealthy habits are meant to be broken, and replaced with healthy ones, in the New Year.
Sometimes it’s just making a commitment to change our thinking, opening our minds to what’s possible, or to simply lay off sugar.
Whatever it is, only you know what is holding you back. Now is a great time for the vision board. You may want to create a literal one, cutting and pasting images, with words, or perhaps just a mental one.
Make some notes to yourself.
- What is blocking you?
- What drains your energy (without being rewarding in any way)?
- What energizes you?
- What makes you feel great?
- What are your goals?
- What is possible?
- How can you make that happen?
If you write it all down, and make a list, once it’s on paper, on a list, it will eventually scream out at you to make changes.
Nobody wants to feel constant brain drain. If that’s what you’re feeling, maybe it’s time to make a change, to get outside more, to buy healthier foods at the store to make wholesome home cooked meals, and shy away from greasy takeout. Maybe it is time to leave a toxic relationship, and start loving yourself more?
It’s your year, and nobody else is going to make the changes but you.
I am grateful for so many things. I am trying to recognize the things I cannot change. In 2021, I will try to look at the positives as much as possible. Everywhere I look, there is more news I don’t want to hear. So my choices are to not listen, or not listen too much. Blocking out the world entirely is not realistic. I will focus on the positive.
I feel grateful I was able to get outside for most of 2020 (except for maybe April…Booo!!!), for which I am grateful. I surfed, hiked, enjoyed learning more about the native plants, breathed air, meditated, worked out, practiced yoga, hiked, surfed, and did my best to hold on to what was normal, that I care so much about. If anything this year delineated what is essential. For me, the things that matter most are the people in your life.
So staying home is not an option. We need to live life, breathe air, and be in community with one another. Staying home is more unhealthy than going to work, risking catching a cold, or a flu. Mental health is perhaps more important than physical health. In order to maintain that, I need to get outside. Breathe is life.
Will 2021 be different than 2020? I’m sure it will be, and in what way, remains to be seen. But what’s a more important question, is how will I be different, and how will I stay the same? So I have been asking myself what needs to change, moving forward, as I step into the new year, with a hopefully even more positive mindset than before.
I wish you all a Happy, and Healthy 2021!
Thanks for stopping by.
