Exploring Black Star Canyon and Mariposa Reserve

I went on a 10 mile Mountain Bike Ride and Hike in Black Star Canyon at the Mariposa Reserve. I parked at the trailhead, and road on up the wide flat road, to see how far I would climb into the hills. The wide, flat, sometimes rutted road leading to Black Star Canyon Falls, draws a crowd, especially on weekends. Whether it’s waterfalls, wildflowers, history, or mystery, Black Star Canyon continues to be a magnet to visitors.

Eaton Canyon

I set out through Eaton Canyon in Altadena, CA on a sunny spring day in February.I would be hiking on to the waterfall, and there would be many creek crossings. Some of the trail was damaged during recent rains from the atmospheric river events California was experiencing.

Hiking Icehouse Canyon in the Snow

I decided to hike up Icehouse Canyon, to see the waterfalls flowing in winter, during a recent snow. The road to the parking area was clear. There were however signs along the roadside reading “Hiking Not Advised.” This was likely due to recent missing hikers on Mt Baldy.
