Sunrise to Scissors: PCT Section A Complete

Follow me on my journey, as I complete PCT Section A. There is beauty in completion, and though I may never complete the whole PCT, I completed the goal set before me, to finish PCT Section A hiking from Sunrise Trailhead to Scissors crossing, on a 17.9 mile day hike.

Starting at Sunrise: 20 miles on the PCT

I returned to the PCT to continue finishing hiking Section A, starting at Sunrise Trailhead, heading Sobo along the desert section overlooking Anza Borrego. I was treated to scenic boulder strewn vistas, rugged rocky peaks, and plenty of wildflowers. It is PCT hiking season, and I ran into several Nobo hikers throughout the day.

But first I had to stop to check out the rock garden, heading down Montezuma Valley Rd to the desert floor from Ranchita My first stop on my trip to… Continue reading Desert Blooms and Maidenhair Falls

Villager: An Illusive Desert Peak

It reminded me of my hike up Mount Whitney somehow, this toe-crushing, and somewhat soul crushing peak. I had truly met my match with this one. Backpacking PCT Section A – Day 1

I have thought and wondered about hiking the PCT a lot of the years. Living in Southern California, not far from the trail, I had hiked on short sections of it, out and back. I had not yet backpacked or thru hiked an entire section before. Section A starts in Campo, CA and is 107.1 miles long, ending in Warner Springs, CA. The prospect of hiking 100 miles was exciting to me. I knew the time to do it was in spring, after the nights warmed above freezing, and preferably after the winter time rains ended.
