I set out on the 6 mile trail to Iron Mountain (Elevation 2684), leaving from the trailhead around 9am. This is "Little" Iron Mountain, not Big Iron, the one with 7000 feet of gain in the Angeles Forest. This hike has far less gain, but is definitely challenging.
I visited Joshua Tree National Park and stayed at Jumbo Rocks Campground. Nearby was the popular 2.5 mile trail, Arch Rock Loop. Here is what you can expect, if you visit this trail.
Within Joshua Tree National Park, in the California desert, there are thousands of these strange trees, for which the park received its namesake. There is a campground here called Jumbo Rocks, which is popular for camping, amongst the enormous boulders. I heard there was an interesting outdoor museum in the town of Joshua Tree, CA, a place that draws artists, outdoor enthusiasts, and interesting people from all walk of life.
This is a 15 mile loop hike bordering the Cleveland National Forest, in Caspars Wilderness Park along Ortega Highway. It has a historic point of interest, the site of the historic San Juan Hot Springs. Parts of the trail are very overgrown. Follow along on the journey as I hike the Oso and Juaneno Loop.
