Red Cathedral in Golden Canyon and Badwater

This hike heads up a box canyon, just past Furnace Creek, and is centrally located in Death Valley National Park. It has a steady incline all the way. It is a wide, scenic, and highly popular trail. It branches off so you can hike on to Zabriskie Point, or you may head further up the canyon, until the trail dead ends at a rock formation called Red Cathedral.

Death Valley National Parks Borax Works

Harmony Borax Works is a short 1/2 miles hike through the site of some old machinery used in the manufacture, and mining of borate. You can learn all about the 20 Mule Team, and the mining of this mineral, we find in products throughout our homes today.

A Windy Day and a Big Swell in Dana Point: Killer Dana Rises Again

The swell was building, as massive waves crashed across Dana Point breakwater, a long jetty protecting the harbor. I was standing right by the Ocean Institute with the headlands towering above. I always loved this spot, for checking the waves.

The Vernal Pools

The Vernal Pools are a unique type of wetland and environment. They are located adjacent near the entrance to Sano Surf Beach, and the Songs Plant. This is a unique protected area of vernal pools, and a habitat for fairy shrimp, an endangered species.
