Mount Baldy in June

I set off on a hike up Mount Baldy, in June, just as the winter snows were finishing their late season melt-off. I had not been into the mountains much the past two seasons. Spring came and went without a hike amidst the high peaks of the San Gabriels. I had read Mount Baldy now had just just a small amount of snow left, and that the trail was mostly dry. It was time to get back up there, for my second ever hike up Mount Baldy, on Fathers Day, June 18th, 2023.

Eaton Canyon

I set out through Eaton Canyon in Altadena, CA on a sunny spring day in February.I would be hiking on to the waterfall, and there would be many creek crossings. Some of the trail was damaged during recent rains from the atmospheric river events California was experiencing.

Hiking Icehouse Canyon in the Snow

I decided to hike up Icehouse Canyon, to see the waterfalls flowing in winter, during a recent snow. The road to the parking area was clear. There were however signs along the roadside reading “Hiking Not Advised.” This was likely due to recent missing hikers on Mt Baldy.
