San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary
We went for a 4 walk around the 300 acre San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary between rain squalls of the atmospheric river that was hitting California. The wetlands here act as a natural water filter. The plants found here, such as bullrush, help to filter urban runoff from San Diego Creek before it reaches Upper Newport Bay.
Exploring Black Star Canyon and Mariposa Reserve
I went on a 10 mile Mountain Bike Ride and Hike in Black Star Canyon at the Mariposa Reserve. I parked at the trailhead, and road on up the wide flat road, to see how far I would climb into the hills. The wide, flat, sometimes rutted road leading to Black Star Canyon Falls, draws a crowd, especially on weekends. Whether it’s waterfalls, wildflowers, history, or mystery, Black Star Canyon continues to be a magnet to visitors.
