The Coachella Valley Preserve

Out in the desert near Indio and Palm Desert is an interesting place to explore called the Coachella Valley Preserve. Within it are miles of trails to explore, including the 4 mile Pushwalla Palms Loop.

Death Valley: Mesquite Dunes

Follow me on my journey exploring in Death valley National Park. My first stop will be Mesquite Flat San Dunes. As I approached the dunes driving down Highway 120, I could see off in the distance a very large dune, several hundred feet high, shaped like a pyramid, which seemed to be several miles from the road. I sort of had made up my mind, I had to get there, and have a closer look.

Split Rock Loop

I will be hiking the Split Rock Loop past Skull Rock in Joshua Tree National Park. The hike is 4 miles, and is rated as Easy to Moderate. It's a perfect hike if you are staying at Jumbo Rocks Campground in Joshua Tree.

Arch Rock Loop in Joshua Tree NP

I visited Joshua Tree National Park and stayed at Jumbo Rocks Campground. Nearby was the popular 2.5 mile trail, Arch Rock Loop. Here is what you can expect, if you visit this trail.

Hole in the Wall and the Mojave National Preserve

It was early March, when I drove out to the Mojave Desert. It's a place I don't really hear about much, unless someone is referencing a place that is brutally hot. You have no doubt heard, "at least we are not in the Mojave," once of twice in your lifetime. So what exactly would I find in a place that is hot, dry, and empty. That's about all I knew about it, and that there were things called Gila Monsters.
