Road Trip on Highway 78: Snow in San Diego, and Desert Sculptures

It’s early March as I drive down Highway 78 toward the town of Julian. California is cool right now at sea level, and at about 4000 feet in elevation, there is snow. I would visit Inspiration Point, Galletta Meadows, and Hellhole Canyon, in Anza Borrego.

Sylvan Meadows

Have you wanted to see what old California looks like, hike through an old Oak Grove, and through an ecological reserve? You may want to check out the Santa Rosa Ecological Reserve. Enjoy my guide to hiking through Sylvan Meadows.

Death Valley National Parks Borax Works

Harmony Borax Works is a short 1/2 miles hike through the site of some old machinery used in the manufacture, and mining of borate. You can learn all about the 20 Mule Team, and the mining of this mineral, we find in products throughout our homes today.

The San Onofre Bluffs: 6 mile Beach Loop Hike

I went for a 6 mile scenic hike at one of my favorite coastal bluffs, at San Onofre State Beach. It’s a kind of strange location to find a state park, sandwiched between a border patrol checkpoint to the east of it, the remnants of a nuke plant to the north of it, and the huge expanse of Camp Pendleton, to the south and east of it.

The Vernal Pools

The Vernal Pools are a unique type of wetland and environment. They are located adjacent near the entrance to Sano Surf Beach, and the Songs Plant. This is a unique protected area of vernal pools, and a habitat for fairy shrimp, an endangered species.
