The Lakes Trail was filled with beautiful pristine wilderness scenery all along the way. Late season snow in July made this trip even more interesting. On this trip I was on a mission to explore all the best trails of the park. Snow seemed to be lingering on the high peaks above 9000 feet, and the Lakes Trail was begging to be explored.

Hiking up Volcan Mountain rewards you with beautiful views of pristine wilderness, surrounded by charming farmscapes, amid the rolling hills of San Diego’s wine country. Reaching the peak is a somewhat challenging workout. You can take Volcan Mountain Trail all the way or take the Five Oaks Trail, which eventually joins Volcan Mountain Trail, on to the peak.
