Exploring Fire Island National Seashore in August

I was in Robert Moses State Park, a stretch of beach, I always wondered about. It sits on a sandbar, on Fire Island, a barrier island. Being the weekend, it is still very crowded in the parking lot, but I managed to find a spot quickly. Summertime late afternoons at the beach are when crowds generally disperse. I decided I would start with a beach walk, heading to the next town over, Kismet, before making my way to the lighthouse, located within Fire Island National Seashore.

Feeling Craggy: The Lemon Squeezer

I had been to The Gunks as they are referred to before, and my last visit was in the late fall, during the off-season about 20 years ago. I had taken a short hike, checking out the rock climbing area along Undercliff trail, with another climbing enthusiast. Lacking gear and time I sadly did not partake in any of the climbs. I found myself  in the Shawangunks area of New Paltz once again, on a summertime visit to upstate New York. It is August, so the weather is warm and sunny this time of year. I was excited to explore amongst the thousands of acres of woods and trails here. There are a series of famous crags, several mountain lakes, a mountain top tower and a beautiful old lakefront hotel, all within the 7,000 acre Mohonk Nature Preserve. One of the climbs, is through what is referred to as the Lemon Squeezer.

Old Town Sac

I had only been to the state capitol once. This is not something I was proud of. With all the important protests in recent years, I had been to not a single one. Well I was there in spirit at least.I had only been to a conference at a hotel here once, and it was not even downtown. Enough said, it was time to see old town Sacramento. I had been intrigued by this place for a long time, after learning about it in history books, and in documentaries on the old west. The Transcontinental Railway begins there, and there are so many things that have happened here over the years.

Exploring Napa Valley

07-13-2023 I had never been to the Napa Valley before. Springtime and summer are the best times of year to see this place green and lush. It was mid-July, and was an ideal time to visit. The grapes were about to be harvested, and summertime was in full swing. We were heading to stay in… Continue reading Exploring Napa Valley

Moro Rock

I had been hearing about Moro Rock for years, since it’s one of the trails people rave about. Well I had to see for myself, and see what all the fuss was about. It’s just a large granite rock, and it is only 0.5 miles long. Distance wise, pretty much anyone could make this trek. I had set out to hike all the best trails in the park, so I said to myself that Moro Rock is officially on my official Sequoia National Park bucket list.
