Paddleboarding in Dana Point Harbor

I went paddleboarding around Dana Point Harbor with a friend in August.

The beaches were packed with cars and surfers, this time of year. You just can’t drive to your favorite surf spot, and expect to just park. I picked up a paddleboard awhile back to have when I went to the Sierras, on vacation with my daughter, to use on lakes. I had never taken it in the ocean before.

So I grabbed a friend and decided to give it a try at Dana Point’s Baby Beach.

We paddled out from the sandy beach popular with children, navigating our way past the ships in the harbor. There was some current, which I was not expecting.

We decided to paddle the harbor clockwise, heading through the harbor first, towards the end of it where the Wind and Sea Restaurant is. We were careful to stay to the right to avoid ships.

We passed a dock full of sea lions on the right, and the sheriffs boat docked alongside.

We paddled our way around the corners, and back along the long breakwater. I did not take many photos, mainly because I was worried I would lose my phone.

Paddleboarding is a unique form of physical fitness, that is one part workout, and another adventure on the high seas. In this case it was just a harbor.

I’m not going to lie, but we did not stand on our boards for most of the journey. I was sitting or kneeling, while paddling for most of it. There is a learning curve to this for sure. The good news is neither of us wiped out!

I hope you enjoyed reading this, and it is helpful in knowing what to expect, should you decide to visit here.
