Started off hiking up the Santiago Oaks Creek Trail, and through a series of many different trails, on up to the ridge. I took Oak Trail, Yucca, and then Bumblebee.

The trails here are hard packed with dirt and at least 4 feet wide for most of the way. There are lots of mountain bikers here too, so be aware in case they have no bell on their bikes, since they go by fast.

Once on the ridge, I descended once again, into a valley of Oaks, heading towards Weir Canyon, on Deer Canyon Trail.

There are so many wildflowers in bloom right now, even with such a dry year. There will be no superbloom, but it was still beautiful.

There are lots of powerlines around the peak. I was feeling adventurous, so I hiked up towards them, though normally I prefer to stay away from the buzz

You can experience 360 degree views up here of all of Orange County, and see the high peaks of national forests.
Today was a little hazy, over LA, but I could still make out the buildings of downtown LA in the distance.

Looking out towards Robber’s Peak, where the stagecoach robbers were known to hang out in wait. There is a bit of history and mystery here in Santiago Oaks.

My hike today was 7.5 miles, and just over 1500 foot of gain going up to the ridge. The trail took me down into a valley, and then back up to the highest point, to the flagpole.

On way back, I walked past the old dam, which sits alongside Santiago Creek Trail.
There is an interesting habitat here, with lots of aquatic plants growing near the stream.
The dam had a ton of algae, and muck in the stagnant water. I don’t recommend getting too close to it.

I hope you enjoyed reading this, and it is helpful in knowing what to expect, should you decide to visit here.
